Photographer says he lost his wedding ring while trying to take a selfie in a field
By Tom O’Brien The Australian photographer has lost his ring while taking a selfie, after being struck by lightning in the bush.
Tom OBrien, 30, was walking along a creek near his home in North Macquarie when he noticed a lightning bolt coming towards him from the bush on Wednesday morning.
“I thought it was going to be a pretty big storm so I thought, ‘what the hell, let’s get some water and do this’,” he told 7.30.
“I’m just hoping that I’m not going to have any problems with my life or my family’s life, I’m just really lucky.”
Mr O’Briens ring, a small gold chain with a chain of six silver rings, was missing from his pocket when he hit the ground.
“At first, I didn’t know what was happening,” he said.
“Then I saw it falling off and I thought ‘wow, it’s probably a big thunderstorm’.”
Mr OBrians wedding ring is believed to have been lost when he was struck by a lightning strike.
“My wedding ring was in a pocket,” he told ABC Radio Melbourne.
“It was in my hand, my hand was open.
I was trying to do some stuff when I realised that I had it.”
And it was just gone.
And then I looked down and it was gone.
It was gone.”‘
It was a little bit scary’ Mr O’Oberleys ring has been recovered, but the family has been left devastated.”
We just want to know where he is and we want to get him home and be with him,” Mr Oberleys mother, Rachel, told 7 .30.”
He’s a good kid, he’s a normal kid, and he’s just been gone for quite a while now.
“So, we don’t know where the ring is, we want him to be safe.”
The O’Keefe family are hoping to track down the ring before Christmas.
“To get the ring back is really important,” Mr Trew said.
“This is really a miracle.
I just want the ring to be returned to him.”
There’s nothing we can do about the ring because it’s not hers.”‘
A really good thing to do’The Oakesons have set up a GoFundMe page to raise money to buy a ring to replace the lost ring.
