The 25-year-old defenseman is expected to play alongside Taylor Hall in the Oilers top defensive pairings in 2018-2019, but he is expected be able to compete for a spot in the team’s top four at times.
Trouba has been a staple in the Edmonton organization for years, as he has spent his entire career in the Canadian Hockey League.
He is one of only two defensemen in NHL history to have over 2,000 career games played.
Tougba had a standout season with the Calgary Flames last year, as the 24-year old scored 20 goals and was a plus-22 in 61 games.
He also added 16 assists for 21 points and was the only player in the league to record a plus/minus rating over +26.
In the NHL, Trouba has a career plus/plus rating of +8.7 and has recorded at least 100 points in each of his five seasons with the Flames.
He has also scored at least five goals in every season since 2013-2014.
Touba, a native of Quebec City, Quebec, has played in eight NHL games with Edmonton this season.
